Phase I for the Elder’s Cancer Treatment consisted of three CyberknifeTreatments (40 minutes) over three weeks and twenty five conventional radiation treatments (12 minute) over five weeks. Besides receiving the certificate shown here, what’s next?
Nurse Thomas told the Elder that he no longer had to observe the no alcohol, no caffeine, low fiber diet. While the Elder observed the low fiber portion of the diet, he did cheat a little bit with the caffeine and alcohol, well maybe a “lotta” bit.
Nurse Thomas also scheduled a follow-up interview by phone a week later and has scheduled the next big test in a month (Sept 5, 2013). That will be the first of quarterly follow-ups to meet with the Dr. and through a DRE and a PSA test determine how things are going.
In terms of side effects, most have subsided, however the hormone treatments continue my movement towards the other sex including hot flashes and a reduced libido, if that’s the proper term.
You also can be a champion next quarter. In order to do so, you must become a validated member of the Elder’s group. Log on to our site and click on Groups and follow the steps to request membership in the Elder’s group. Elder must approve each registrant since high standards prevail as usual. Registration closes September 1.
You are all invited to participate in the 3Q13 Elder’s Special EMU Invitational to be played on Mondays and Tuesdays from 6:30-8:00am during the weeks of September 9, 16, and 23. The winner(s) will be announced at the PJ Skidoo’s Awards Ceremony on September 27 at 5:00pm.
Note that this event represents an abbreviated tournament for 3Q13 and will be a test of the new approach to the Elder’s. The ladder will be announced by the Friday preceding the weeks play and each foursome will have a leader who has the responsibility of reserving the court for his groups play on Monday or Tuesday from 6:30 – 8:00. Scores will be reported following the match via MikeHammer.com and Elder will tabulate and create a ladder for the following week.
If you wish to participate in this event please respond to this Post by Sept 1 and recall that only Fall EMU members may register.
This note is being simultaneously being posted on MikeHammer.com
where you are encouraged to post your suggestions, concerns, bitches or gripes.
Raymond and Boy Wander, hold on to your comments Elder is creating a special area of the website for your comments.
The Elder’s planning committee met a P.J. Skidoos last night and accomplished more than you can possibly imagine. Ideas were flowing at a unbelievable pace as was the alcohol. Really great to see Layth (General Muneer) and his son who we have not seen since last spring. The General is not currently playing tennis but rather waiting for knee surgery required after an accidental fall.
Elder was overwhelmed and humbled by the fine presents bestowed upon him for his successful completion of Radiation Treatments. This simply confirms what good friends we have and how attentive they are to the Elder’s Tennis Togs….some of them dating back to his 60′s tennis…ah, make that 50′s. Thank you all.
Stay tuned for news of the Fall Invitational following our get-together at PJ Skidoo’s this evening.
Upon completion of the last treatment, Marlene and I celebrated by taking the bus crosstown and the metro to the Newseum. The Newseum is currently featuring the Kennedy Camelot years.  And, while most of our readers are probably too young to remember those years, we would encourage all of you to Metro down to the exhibit.  We thought it was outstanding.
And, for the record, please note our graduation certificate for the successful completion of the first phase of this journey.
Marlene and I are at Georgetown Medstar Hospital ready for Treatment 25 of 25. But wait, Tiffany just told us that the Trillogy machine is down and we would know soon how long to wait. Good news first patient just called and I’m next.
OK…..so Treatment 25 is tomorrow and Marlene is going to join me.  Elder has invited friends and relatives but most have declined for reasons the Elder does not understand.
Since this is the last day, Elder has prepared a movie to help the user understand the process by which Treatments 1-25 are completed.  Take a look and let me know if you get the picture.
Elder sent some questions to Nurse Tom today:
- Do we need to wear something special to graduation on Monday and  can we invite my friends and relatives?
- On a more serious note, how do we find out the medical costs based on our behalf since our arrival at Georgetown Medstar Hospital.
